The Algarve News - Established in 1977

The Algarve News was established in August 1977 as the first newspaper to serve the then quite small foreign community living along the Algarve. It was published monthly and well received from the first edition.

Over the years it became fortnightly and eventually weekly, and then grew into a national newspaper called The Portugal News. It has an ever growing circulation (currently around 20,000 copies per week) of over four times greater
than any other English language newspaper or magazine, and a loyal readership not just throughout the Algarve but also nationally. It is, without question, the leading English language title in Portugal with the highest editorial standards. Only The Portugal News offers an audited circulation. Our website has a high daily traffic. Visit the site here There is also an ePaper where you can flick through each page and see the full edition with every page. ePaper

Visitors can pick up a complimentary copy from the baggage reclaim area at Faro airport, as well as the departure lounge. Complementary copies are also available from selected outlets along the Algarve, and at newsagents.

News and features about the Algarve are covered extensively, along with all the major national news produced by our own journalists.

We have a history section available online with many articles, pages and covers from the 70's and 80's in PDF format. Remember the currency at the time was the Escudo, but the conversion formula is on the first page. You will be amazed at prices from eating out, fuel, shopping and housing. Click here
